Troubleshooting Recliner Issues

Problems or Faults with Recliners

Recliners are an important item in many homes for a variety of reasons. Some people purchase them for the comfort of relaxing in a soft chair while having the ability to change positions when desired. Others, however, purchase recliners for health benefits, such as the ease of getting into and out of the chair, proper weight distribution to ease pain and reduce pressure points on muscles and joints or even the pain relief many people receive from the massage feature. Regardless of your reason for buying a recliner, if the recliner's not working properly, then you cannot enjoy the benefits.

Before you call customer service or a repair technician, take some time to troubleshoot why your recliner is not working so you can either fix the problem or explain what is wrong accurately.

Rubbing Sounds & Noises

As there are moving parts there is a potential for audible noise however this is not a fault. Is it the material rubbing together or it is the mechanism making the noise down below?

If it’s the material, use leather conditioner in the area where it is rubbing to alleviate this. In extreme case you can also use silicone grease in-between the parts making the noise. This 99% of the time will do the trick. If this is too extreme and persists however it is possible the parts need adjustment.

Unfortunately there is no way to prevent a degree of rubbing as by its nature and being soft upholstered furniture there has to be parts close together. If they were farther apart then there would be unsightly gaps.

Clanking or Clonking

There are many working parts in a recliner mechanism and, inevitably, these will cause noise during operation. Clicks, squeaks and metallic spring noises are to be expected as the mechanism changes position and moves from closed to fully reclined and back again. These noises are normal and not signs of a fault.

If you have just got your recliner and its doing this you need to get a technician to have a look at something may be out of alignment or there may be a problem. Please contact [email protected].

If you have had your recliner for more than six months then a fault may have developed due to usage.

By virtue of the fact your recliner has been operating normally for some time it is not possible that there is an inherent fault but rather one created potentially by the way the recliner is used. The recliner is designed to move in linear direction in and out it will do so for many years without problems if used normally.

NB: It may need maintenance of being oiled with WD40 occasionally and please check that nothing has become lodged in the mechanism and all the screws and bolts are tight.

Power Not Working

This could be for several reasons and the first thing to check is the transformer. Is the light on and are all connections tight? Have you had a power outage?

Check if any cut wires as sometimes the wires can become entangled.

If the transformer light is on and everything is connected properly then it can be the switch box either becoming loose or a loose wire?
