Getting the Best from your Recliner Sofa

Leather recliners are very popular because of their comfort, durability and polished look. However, leather is very reactive, so you have to take special care to maintain your leather recliner. Leather is a porous material, so if you are using your recliners constantly, the body oils and dust in the room can get into the pores, making it look dull and faded. You have to dust your leather recliner at least once every week to loosen the dirt from the pores. There are special cleaners and solvents that are available, which you should use to clean your leather recliners at least once every six months. Most household solvents that are used to clean furniture can damage leather, so make sure that you buy the right solvents to keep your recliner looking new for longer. Maintaining your recliners, no matter what material they are covered with, is not difficult. However, if you take a little extra effort and take care of your recliners frequently, you can extend their life by several years.

Quick Tips

  • Don't get in and out of the recliner when extended
  • Make sure all cables underneath are free from obstruction
  • Vacuum, clean and condition the leather every 3-6 months
  • Use a damp cloth for normal wiping / daily cleaning
  • Place away from direct or harsh sunlight

Maintaining your Recliner Sofa

Some basic maintenance to the mechanism will help extend the usage for many years to come:

  • Lubricate the joints of the under-carrriage of the recliner with WD40 or GT85 once a year. This will help prevent any squeaks or groans.
  • Lubricate the piston on the motor with a silicone based lubricant such as vaseline or silicone grease. This will help prevent any humming squeakes which can result if the piston is completely bone dry.

WARNING: We would advice customers not to alight or enter from the recliner whilst extended. This  may result in a twisting or sideways motion or pressure which after some time can damage the perfect alignment of the recliner mechanism.

WARNING: Avoid sitting on padded arms as this may lead to loss of tuft and unsightly flattening of the arm rest. The arm rest is designed to be soft and for arms and fairly low load.
