Central Sofa Leg Function
Many sofas and especially those with long sections may need an additional central leg support as secondary support mechanism.
These as intended to provide secondary support when the sofa is under extreme stress and to prevent frame damage on sofas. This is not necessarily intended to engage continuously as this is the job of the flex in the frame, springs and then cushions themselves.
Comfort on the sofa is reliant upon:
- The wooden frame which flexes to small degree
- The metal springs are high tensile steel and flex more readily
- The high density foam also flexes with weight and refreshes
The central leg may in fact just sit slightly off the ground and only engage under extreme stress.
If this were not the case the centre of the frame would be rigid to the floor and therefore the frame would flex less which would render the sofa less comfortable.
If you feel the gappage is to much from the floor you may add a felt pad to the leg to lessen the gap which should be around 5-10mm.
